The whistle for the company sports day had just blown. I stood by the field, holding a few fruit-flavored lollipops. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Hank Stephenson looking pale nearby. He was leaning against the railing, sweat dripping down his forehead. I remembered he had hypoglycemia. I quickly walked over and handed him a strawberry-flavored lollipop. "Hank, are you feeling unwell? This candy might help." He paused for a moment, then took the candy, unwrapped it, and put it in his mouth. Just then, a sharp voice interrupted. "Oh, Linda, so concerned about my husband, huh?" It was Hank's wife, my female cousin Luna Marshall. She crossed her arms, a mocking smile on her face. The room instantly fell silent, and several pairs of eyes locked onto me. My heart sank—I knew she was about to start trouble. Sure enough, Luna Marshall stepped forward and deliberately raised her voice. "You guys might not know, but my cousin actually used to chase after my husband." "Back then, she cried and threw fits, saying she wouldn't marry anyone but Hank. So why hasn't she gotten over him yet?" As soon as she said that, a wave of whispering spread through the crowd. My cheeks flushed with a mix of anger and frustration. Taking a deep breath, I looked up at Luna Marshall. "Luna, there's no need to bring up the past anymore. I haven't had those kinds of feelings for Hank for a long time." Luna curled her lips, clearly not buying it. "No feelings? Then why did you take the initiative to give him candy like that?" "Or are you just jealous because we're doing well?" I bit my lip, really not wanting to make a big deal out of this. But since she was being so pushy, I couldn't keep backing down. "I was just concerned—after all, we're family." "Besides, I'm already married." Luna Marshall rolled her eyes, sounding even more scornful. "So what if you're married? Who knows what your husband does—maybe he's just a regular guy." I stared at her smug face and finally lost it. "It's none of your business who my husband is." "But I can tell you this—he's the new chairman of our company, Edward Stafford." That statement was like a bomb going off in the room. Luna's smile instantly froze, and her eyes went wide. The whispers around us turned into shocked murmurs. "What? Linda Marshall's husband is the new chairman?" "No wonder she's so calm—turns out she has connections." Hank Stephenson was stunned too, even forgetting to chew his lollipop. I stopped paying attention to their reactions and turned around, walking out of the crowd.
