Goodbye to the Cheater

My fingers went white clutching the plane ticket. This time, I came on a business trip to Mike Collins' city without telling him, hoping to surprise him. The taxi pulled up right outside the apartment building. I was humming a light tune as I went upstairs, expertly pulling out my spare key and slipping it into the lock. The moment the door opened, the smile on my face instantly froze. A woman in a sexy silk nightgown stepped out of the bedroom, her hair all messy. She froze when she saw me, then quickly masked it with a calm expression. "Mike Collins has gone to work—it's just me here now." She spoke so casually, like this was her territory. I frowned, suspicion creeping into my voice, "What are you doing here?" "Mia, the rent nearby is just way too expensive. Mike kindly offered to share a place with me, so I can save a lot of money." She smiled as she explained, but her eyes flickered nervously. "Mike and I grew up together since we were kids. It's just pure bros' friendship, so please don't overthink it!" I followed her gaze toward the bedroom door, where a red lace lingerie was casually thrown over, and a mocking smirk curled at the corner of my mouth. Bros sleeping in the same bed? Now that's something new. I grabbed my phone and dialed Mike Collins' number right away. "It's just about sharing a place, okay? Lydia's tight on cash, so what's wrong with me helping her out?" Mike's impatient voice came from the other end, "She can't find a decent place right now. You should stay at a hotel for a few days and stop causing trouble here." The call was mercilessly cut off. I sneered and immediately messaged my mom: "Raise the rent on the apartment rented to Mike back to market price." After hanging up, I shoved all of Lydia's stuff into her suitcase at once, grabbed it, and threw it out the door. Then I pushed her out too, slamming the door shut with a loud bang. "Mia! Open the door!" Lydia's tearful voice called from outside. I leaned against the door, closed my eyes, and didn't say a word.
